Wi-Fi Calling

 

 

 

Wi-Fi Calling improves your coverage and allows you to make phone calls and send messages over an available Wi-Fi network. For billing and other details, read about Wi-Fi Calling.

 

When the Wi-Fi Calling feature is turned on, your phone displays the Wi-Fi Calling wifi%20calling%20icon.bmp icon on the Notification bar. To make a Wi-Fi call, you must be within range of a Wi-Fi network. If you move outside the range of the Wi-Fi network, the phone will make an audible beep and then the call will drop.

 

 

To turn on Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Calling:

  1. From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Wireless & networks.
  4. Tap Wi-Fi settings.

To ensure maximum resilience to liquid and dust, the headset and charging grommets must be fully engaged.

 

If your DEFY inadvertently comes into contact with liquid, then follow the steps below:

  1. Dry off all liquid from the phone with a dry cloth.

  • Phone speed and performance - Performance of the phone has been enhanced resulting in faster user interface, application operation, and Web browsing.
  • Adobe Flash Player 10.1 - Your device now supports Adobe® Flash® Player 10.1, allowing access to rich Web content and games. Adobe Flash Player 10.1 is installed along with this upgrade.
  • App storage and updating - Applications can now be stored on the device's microSD card. Additionally, apps can be set to automatically update by checking "allow automatic updating" under each app's page in the Play Store.
  • Wi-Fi Hotspot - Phone can provide an Internet connection for up to 5 Wi-Fi-enabled devices
  • Digital Keyboard - Added punctuation to the suggestion ribbon.

Reset your device

A master reset restores the original factory settings and may delete your personal data on the internal storage, such as downloads, ringtones, images, apps, contacts, and Visual Voicemail. It doesn't delete data stored on the SIM card or SD card.

 

Master reset with settings menu

  1. Back up all necessary data.
  2. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Tap Privacy.
  5. Tap Factory data reset.
  6. Tap Reset phone.
  7. Tap Erase  everything.

 

Master reset with hardware keys

If the device menus are frozen or unresponsive, you can master reset using hardware keys.

  1. Power off the phone. If the phone is frozen and won’t turn off using the Power button, pull the battery out.
  2. With the device off, press and hold the Volume Down and Power button at the same time.
  3. Press and hold the buttons until a triangle with an exclamation point appears on the screen.
  4. Press the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons at the same time to get the System Recovery Screen to appear.
  5. Press the Volume Down button to highlight Wipe Data/Factory Reset.
  6. Press the Power key to select Wipe Data/Factory Reset.
  7. Press Volume up button to Highlight Yes on Delete all user Data.
  8. Press Power key to select delete all user data.
  9. Press OK.
  10. Once completed press Volume Up button to highlight Reboot System Now.
  11. Press Power key to select reboot system now.

 

Memory and SIM cards

 

SIM card

This device supports a mini size SIM card.

  1. On the back cover, slide the lock to the right to unlock the cover.
  2. Remove the back cover.
  3. With your fingernail, push down on the top of the battery and then pull the battery out.
  4. Slide the SIM card into the slot as shown.

  5. Replace the battery and back cover.
  6. Slide the lock to the left to lock the back cover.

 

Memory card

  1. On the back cover, slide the lock to the right and lift to remove the cover.

  2. To lift the battery out of the battery compartment, push the battery down toward the gold contacts in the battery compartment. While pushing down on the battery, lift the battery from the top. The battery is a very tight fit and it may take a tool such as a pen to lift the battery out of the compartment.

  3. With your finger nail, lift the top edge of the red flap so it hinges upwards.

  4. The bottom edge is fixed.
  5. You can then slide the SD card to the right and lift it out or slide it in.

 

Network settings

 

Change band

  1. From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Wireless& networks.
  4. Tap Mobilenetworks.
  5. Tap SelectNetwork.
  6. Tap one of the following:
    • 2G only
    • 3G only
    • Automatic  Default

 

Manual network selection

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Wireless and Networks.
  4. Tap Mobile Networks.
  5. Tap Operator Selection.
  6. Tap Search networks.

 

Turn on/off data roaming

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Data manager.
  4. Tap Data Delivery.
  5. Tap to select the Data Roaming check box.

 

Turn on and connect to Wi-Fi

  1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Wireless & networks.
  4. Tap Wi-Fi settings.
  5. Tap Wi-Fi to select (turn on) the check box, if necessary.
  6. Tap the network that you want to connect to.
  7. If required, enter a key or password.
  8. Tap Connect.
